Close Encounter Dragonfly CROP

My first time seeing a dragonfly up close, and let me tell you, they aren't flying teddy bears, nor are they relatives of fairies. These guys are little monsters in appearance. And they're hunters. They eat insects. Imagine this guy stalking a butterfly. But despite their alien looking appearance, I've found they are the dolphins of the prairie. They are really curious of people and will sort of play with you if you show interest. When on a four wheeler, traveling about 20mph, they will fly out in front of you like a dolphin will often do to a boat. I spent several minutes with a dragonfly who would inch closer to me and I to it. The guy in this photo was just a vain soul, who let me get inches away for a snapshot. He even posed, keeping his head toward me the entire time. Pretty neat.
