Well it's been done before, but no trip to Dorset would be complete without paying a visit to the old pier in Swanage. Dorset is a location that I've been wanting to get to for about 3 years now and I can't believe it's taken me that long to pull my finger out to get down there, rest assured it won't be 3 years until the next visit.

Even though this location has been shot so many times, I did a little research before I went and most of the shots I've seen are in 1:1 format. So wanting to do something a little different I've opted for the 2:1, but no doubt there will be a square from me at some point.

Have had trouble with naming this one so far, as all the good titles have been taken by those that have stood here before and inspired me, ie: All That Remains, Remnants etc etc... So if anyone has got any suggestions I'll be happy to part with 12x6" print of this.

Myself and Doug Chinnery have some places available on our long exposure workshop in (and around) Whitby on 10th March. If you are interested, then please send me a Flickr mail or go to: www.dougchinnery.com

Almost forgot how to upload to Flickr it's been that long, thankfully the Christmas rush etc... is out of the way so I can now concentrate more on photography, well that's the New Year's resolution anyway.

This image is obviously a composite and I have to pay thanks to Marcia Bera for the inpspiration, I love his unique style and have often considered doing something like this, but on trying it a few times the subject matter just didn't seem to work with it. The subject here was taken in Eastbourne and the sky a little further down the coast in Brighton, so all from Sussex.

Additionally, the composition is something I've wanted to try for a while as well and a little disappointed that the right jetty was set back a little, which is why I decided on the slightly off centre approach, as it seemed to give it more balance... if that makes any sense at all?

Things have been busy over the last few months, as I was preparing for some of my work to be displayed and hit a few walls with printing and then making decisions on how to frame the shots... but I got there in the end and I must say thanks to Jeff Gaydash and Giles McGarry for their advice. If you want to view my shots in print, they are on display until the end of January at: The Duke, 125 Creek Road, Deptford, London SE8 3BU. It's a gastro pub and I can highly recommend the fish finger sandwich ;-)

Also, I ran my first workshop in November with Doug Chinnery which was a fantastic day and had the chance to put a lot of faces to famililar names. On the back of the success of the workshop, Doug and I will be running another in March in Whitby Yorkshire, if you're interested in attending then please contact Doug via his website: www.dougchinnery.com

Hope everyone is well and hope you all have a great New Year.

This one was taken coming up to a couple of months ago now. It's one of those shots that I kept on coming back to not knowing where to go with it, partly because there's no man made element in it for a change... but glad that I've finally got round to finishing it and hope I've done it justice.

You can check out the 2:1 version over on 500px.com/photo/2389188

Caissons

Having recently been to Michael Levin workshop in Brighton, I've been itching to post something from the area, though this shot was taken a month before the workshop was held as Brighton is a popular location for me to visit for photography.

The workshop itself was very informative, as were all the tips I learned from all the other great photographers there, a lot of them being here on Flickr... to name but a few: Giles McGarry, Michael Diblicek, Gavin Dunbar, Rob Cherry, Rohan Reilly and Paul Wheeler. It was great to see those of you I'd met before and great to put faces to names for the rest of you.

As for this shot, and as with a lot of minimal images, the scale of this structure isn't really shown here. The title comes from the semi circular structures that are submerged in the water, which are 600 tonnes each. Just at the end of the marina wall you can just about make out some figures which are fishermen. In fact, Brighton Marina is actually the biggest marina in Europe and trust me it's huge.

A shot taken from a recent holiday, this is Whitby Harbour, it's probably the best harbour I've ever shot, there's so many different angles to shoot from and I got a few, plus it's a bonus as it's the only harbour along the east coast of England that points north, so it's fantastic to shoot both morning and evening.

Hope all my contacts here are well.
