Chinese Traditional Paper-Cut
It's a folk belief among the ancient chinese that the dead must go to the nether world and report themselves in for the trials executed by the King of Hell .The King of Hell is the master of nether world and takes charge of the ghosts' life or death and transmigration! The King of Hell has a enroll of life,recording every people's life time. Whan man is toward his end of life time, the King will send his subman -- Ghost of Anitya (meaning of Ghost of impermanence) to escort the soul to hell court for trial! The judge will be based on his kindness or evilness before death, that is to say, he will be transmigrated into a fairy or arranged a good next life if he does good deeds and accumulates his virtues. otherwise exiled into the inferno to receive various kinds of punities or arranged a bad next life.

This papercut is always done with only a scissor and a paper. With the composition formed in the creators' mind , they can finish cutting it into any shape like a tree , flower , animal or a more complicated scene maybe from the classic chinese literature or fairy tales. Yes, they just cut off and leave a flat paper with shapes on it. This art is quite popularly widespread almost anywhere in China.Especially, in rural areas, where the tradition life style is still better preserved, peasant women cut papers for leisure and as toys for their younger children. Exactly, most of the women are even illiterate or poorly educated.
