Mad Men Season 3, Episode 3: My Old Kentucky Home
If Mad Men had it's "Farrah in a Bathing Suit" moment... something that would be on a poster in every teenage bedroom across the nation... this would be it.
Joan, as as been commented, is pure sex. And in that gutter between "why don't you play something" and the instrument is produced and the mind reels no one in the universe predicted the squeeze box. The accordion is not sexy (despite heroic efforts on the part of Judy Tenuta and John Linnell) -- it covers the Joan's best assets-- but she sells the hell out of it and the night this was broadcast, ten thousand new creepy fetishes were born. Have fun finding a girlfriend to squeeze the bellows for ya, fellas!
It is accurate to period though -- in the late 50s, 300 thousand accordions were sold a year. Plus, the obsession with all things French would explain the song and the maudlin wall art (which I have spared my carpel tunnel from reproducing). And of course, the propoganda.
I can not sell merchandise (i.e. prints of these illustrations) of any kind due to Lionsgate enforcing their copyright. Not on Zazzle. Not anywhere.
