#3.5 Insulting the Utzes
Season Two, Episode Three
Jimmy Barrett upsets the Schillings with some tired fatty barbs. The Schillings are constantly refered to as "The Utzes" snidely by the other characters but in real life Utz was owned by Bill and Salie Utz (and I think there was an Utz brother, too) . I knew Utz was an east coast product, but I recently learned it's really specifically a PA-Baltimore product -- which would explain the ubiquitous Crab Chip. (I prefer "Grandma Utz" which are cooked in lard and taste slightly porky) My friend Terry Jinn always pronounces it "OOOTZ" with the gutteral oomph of a man expelling a kidney stone. I wonder if Matt Weiner got free Utz for putting it in the show (it wasn't a sponsored placement, unlike Heineken). Utz Co. should give me a case of chips for writing this much about their product. --- News! Got an email from Patrick Fischler (who played Jimmy) who said he "flipped" over the picture and bought a copy! Hooray! Utz all around! CommentsDonMontrey says:Here in Philly we declare: "Utz is the
shit!" Techworking says:Say Utz. Rhymes with Toots. The little girl
on the bag with the bow in her hair and a
face like a worm.

We love them here in Northern VA and pronounce it "Yootz," sort of like Joe Pesci saying "the youths" in "My Cousin Vinny."
