This looks like a boom across the canal or a bow wave but nothing is moving??? The ship is moored with ropes around the bollards and the gangway is down. - swordscookie
How big is the original glass negative? Ahh... a stereo pair, so probably not one of the big 8x10 or larger formats. Still, those old glass negatives produce wonderfully clear imagery.
Given the size of the ON this is a great image. The really big glass plate cameras produce absolutely gorgeous stuff. Of course they weren't what you could call portable, or fast, but for nice still scenes, oh my!
I'm always amazed how many photographers of 19th - early 20th centuries have created composition in their photographs, as if they have made classical realistic paintings. Every detail is in the right place :)
