• As a child in the 60's my father occasionally brought us to the airport to see the planes. We used to go everywhere over the buildings even as far as the stairway directly below the control tower at this point. Sad how security measures have reduced our freedoms. - RETRO STU
  • Local Aviation enthusiasts used to gather at this spot, mostly at weekends myself included, We would leave our pedal cycles at the side of the building and walk up to the level know as "The Turret" where excellent views could be had over the airfield. This happened up to approx the early 1970's - Flame1958

I'll see if I can replace this one with a higher res version so we can find out once and for all if it is the St. Albert...

I hope the building is still there, and the airplane is still flying.

Can't speak for the airplane, but the building is still there, although very dwarfed by modern additions around it...

Hi. Per my note a number of months ago the terminal is still very much there. Although no longer part of the public section of the airport campus. The aircraft is almost definitely still not flying. Carol promised (hint hint) a higher res version of the image so we could confirm, but I think the name on the nose is "St Albert". If this is the St Albert, it is EI-ACK which is an Ex USAAF DC3 with Serial 43-15037. It is no longer flying, but is on display at TAP HQ at Lisbon Airport with a "fake" reg number. (IF it is the St Albert that is. Carol will give us a high-res so we can check soon...)

You'll be sniggering even more when I tell you (hanging head in shame) that I don't have a higher res version of this one!

The Old Dublin Airport Terminal in this picture is such a beautiful Art-Deco building. Its a shame thats it been swallowed up by further expansion of the airport since then.
