Traditional Norwegian, wooden houses were built on top of dozens of rocks as on display in the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. The house was elevated quite a bit, and while the rocks obviously level out the slope off the hill, the further purpose of leaving most of the space underneath open was a bit unclear: was it for dry housing of farm animals and to evade ground predators, of was it to accommodate legendary trolls?

Holmenkollen Chapel

Holmenkollen Chapel

In the woods of Oslo, Norway is the Holmenkollen Ski Jump, where all the ski jumping events of any importance are held. On the top of the ski jump there is an observation deck where you get a beautiful view of the Oslo area.

Within reach of the zoom lens is the Holmenkollen Chapel, pictured here. Designed in 1903 inspired by the Norwegian wooden stave churches of yore, it was burned to the ground in 1992 to be quickly rebuild afterwards.

Another statue inside the Frogner Park in Oslo, Norway. The figure is carved from a single block of granite rock. Inside this park is a subsection called the Vigeland Sculpture Park, where lots and lots of statues and sculptures like this one are on permanent display outside. A total of 212 statues are located here.
