Biting The Bullet

Biting The Bullet

I took this last summer in my back garden. I noticed a spider's web just beneath the aging wooden garden shed but saw no spider. I found a twig closeby and used it to gently tap on one of the thicker strands of the silk holding the structure together. I'm not going to lie; the spider shot out and reached the base of the twig before I could even react. I was lying flat on my stomach so couldn't even leap back! I was absolutely stunned BUT also saw it as an opportunity to get a close up shot...as you do.

So, off I go to get the camera, mount the macro lens and try again. 9/10 times the spider (which I shall aptly name 'Bullet'), shot out and stopped dead once it reached the twig. So long as I didn't make any sudden movements, Bullet would allow me a few seconds to compose and take a shot. After all his hard work, I thought I owed him a meal - a tasty dead fly found nearby.
