last time taxis striked, there was no traffic on the streets, people rejoiced.

but if anybody wants to take photos of idle taxis during the strike, go to long island city, 1-2 blocks from silvercup studios under the 7 train tracks. several big taxi companies are based there so one may be able to find several hundred taxi cabs parked on the streets.

In London I think there are plans to stop the famous Knowledge course needed to be a cabbie and let them use GPS Routefinders. Would be the end of them I think

sarflondondunc: oddly enough, I don't think the GPS systems in the NYC cabs help the driver navigate: as far as I can tell the screen is only in the back seat where it reassures the passenger that the driver isn't taking them across town by way of Philadelphia (not a direct route).
Oh, and it's monitored at CIA headquarters too, of course.

Not that navigating around New York is quite as tricky as London.

But -- they've got to keep the Knowledge.
