Mt Adams 2007 |
Dean, Seth and myself set out to climb
Mt. Adams. We got away a bit late on
Friday and didn't arrive at the trail
head till 4:30. The road was still not
clear of snow and so we had to hump up
the logging road for a couple of miles.
4 hours and 48 minutes later, 3200 feet
later we stumbled into camp at dusk
around 8000 feet, a 1000 feet of Lunch
Counter where we wanted to be. The next
morning Dean and I woke at 4am and set
out for the summit at 4:40. By 8:30 am
we had arrived at Pikers Peak, 11,600
feet and while we were so close to the
summit, it was still 2 hours there and
back to Pikers. The issue was of time,
priorities and commitment, my family was
waiting for me at Cannon Beach and I had
set expectations that I would be back to
Vancouver around noon. (wildly
underestimated on my part). The summit was another 2 hours away. So we opted
to turn back, I'll have to come back
another day, when we can start out the
day before earlier arriving at Lunch
Counter sooner to get more rest and then
start earlier the next day without tight
time constraints on the other side. The
mountain will always be there, and it
felt to attain my personal best in terms
of height.
Dean's set.
Seth's set.
