A toast to the arts

Thursday night (2 Nov 2006) the Prairie Renaissance Cultural Alliance had their annual fund-raising gala. I took a ton of photos, but most of them are pretty crap because it too dark and I don't have fancy flash equipment.

WeatherGirl pointed out that her drink (a rasberry something-or-other) made pretty patterns on the bar, so I took pictures of that. Perhaps a bit too much like an advertising shot, but I still liked the light.

Perhaps you should check into stock photography. This is a great shot! Cool purple blurb in the background.

Thanks. I've contemplated stock photography on several occassions as I seem somewhat prone to this sort of "standard" shot. (I took a bunch of pictures of our new bathrooms that ended up looking like catalogue shots for a bath fixture company.) I don't really want to be thinking about issues like "Will this sell as stock?" when I'm taking pictures, though, so I'm not sure I'm inclined to go there. Anyways, I already have a very nice job and photography (and Flickr!) are enough of a distraction from that :-).

I got really lucky with that bit of purple back there. I don't even remember whether I was aware of it when I took the photo, but it definitely adds a nice bit of color there.
