Pekoe by Unhindered by Talent

Pekoe

We're currently on a family vacation in Wisconsin, and WeatherGirl brought all her tea making & recording kit with us so she could continue to make sheets that record her tea drinking. She's in the middle of a year+ project where she records a variety of information about every cup of tea she drinks. This includes placing the leaves or (less often) the bag on a little 3"x4" sheet of art paper to capture a stain pattern.

I liked the look of some of the tea drying in the bathroom here at the hotel, so I took some photos. This is some Twinings Orange Pekoe.

And then the alien tentacles emerged from the wall by Unhindered by Talent

And then the alien tentacles emerged from the wall

Yeah, I'm way over fond of ferns, but they're just so cool and twisty and green. How can I resist?!?

This specimen was found growing out of a wall near Glenluce, Scotland, on a walk into town from Castle of Park.

Danger: Cliff edge! by Unhindered by Talent

Danger: Cliff edge!

WeatherGrrrl's obviously very worried about it.

This was taken at the Mull of Galloway, the southernmost point in Scotland and the location of a very cool lighthouse and an equally nifty RSPB nature reserve. The Mull is quite close to Castle of Park, so it might a nice day trip from there. There were tons of birds, neat wild plants, and some uber-cool snails on one wall.

And you could lie down and smell the sea, which is tough to do back in west central Minnesota.

Cold gulls by Unhindered by Talent

Cold gulls

Just before we went up from Preston for Xmas (2007), we had a really nice freeze in Colchester that yielded a bunch of previously posted frost photos (e.g., here and there). The cold snap froze the little pond in Castle Park, and all the gulls were skating around on the (thin) ice. They'd been tussling around these pieces of bread someone had thrown when something startled them off.

A warm welcome by Unhindered by Talent

A warm welcome

In our three encounters with Landmark Trust properties last year (Peake's House, Methwold Old Vicarage, and Castle of Park), the housekeepers laid out a wonderful little welcome tray for us with flowers and a nice note. This is the tray from Castle of Park, and I assure you that the teapot before you was full of steaming hot tea in short order after our arrival :-).

Sadly, people are suggesting that the flowers may be a thing of the past as part of budget constraints on the part of Landmark Trust. Clearly the wonderful properties are far more important than the flowers, but the flowers were a fine little touch and will be missed.
