Expiration date
I’m letting my Flckr Pro account lapse today. It’s a mix of things — I have completely lost interest in the self-promotion on Fickr, the posting of photos to 20 different groups in the hopes they will get noticed, the "post one comment on three" scams to boost views, the cult of Explore, etc.
As a way of sharing pictures with friends it has only caught on in a very limited fashion, and Facebook, even though its photo capabilities are very limited compared to Flickr, reaches more people for me. (And it beats Flickr hands down in access control.)
There’s just way too much stuff on here after five years of uploading that I think nobody ever looks at, so going back to a 200-photo limit probably isn’t so bad.
One thing I noticed over the past weeks as I was preparing for this to happen is that Flickr lacks decent tools for getting your data out of the cloud again. I still have the original photo files, so it wasn’t a huge issue, but especially for Pro accounts, which encourage you to just store your photos in the cloud, there should be a decent option to download complete sets at least, maybe even your whole collection in one go. (Although admittedly that’s a lot of data.)
