Northen Lights (Aurora Borealis)

PURCHASE A PRINT OF THIS IMAGE

This shot was one of several I took in September 2005 in Kulusuk, Greenland - a small island on the east coast. It also formed the basis of an exhibition held at the Norwegian Church in Cardiffand a current (Sept 06) at Cafe Cibus in Cardiff Bay.

It was a week of cold weather and crystal clear nights with aurora displays on every one of them. I envisaged this shot on one of the early nights and was thrilled when the northen lights were in position.

The time it takes for the aurora to move from the horizon to overhead is about five minutes. More of my shots from this series can be viewed here www.flickr.com/photos/nickrussill/sets/72157594268277630/

This photo was used in a Canadian social studies curriculum, Geography, Province to Province in the section on Nunavut (very close to Greenland). Thanks for the great capture and for sharing with CC. www.donnaward.net
