Fly crop

I know it's not original, but it's my first attempt at macro...

Taken with the Canon 70-300mm DO IS @220mm, f/11, using 3 extension tubes, 1.4 teleconverter and a 500D closeup lens. Distance to subject about 18 inches.

Fortunately there are alternatives to the real Canon tubes that are much cheaper. Jessops do an "own brand" set of three that costs the same as a single Canon one. They're probably not as good quality, but I can assure you that they work :-)

One advantage of using tubes, tc's and close focusing lens on a high zoom lens is that you can keep your distance a bit. I think the DOF is narrower too, so I think I'll get a dedicated macro lens at some point, for convenience if nothing else.

Focusing was incredibly difficult because the camera attachments all reduce the light coming into the camera... Must get an MP65 lens :-)
