Lion Island Sunrise

Lion Island Sunrise

Another image from my visit to Flathead Beach a few weeks back, taken just as the sun was rising behind Lion Island.

Apologies to all my Flickr friends for being a bit absent lately, I've really needed to have a short break and recharge. Heading off up the coast on a fishing charter this weekend, I'll catch up with everyone next week.

Have a great weekend!

Copa to Macs

Copa to Macs

With a promising afternoon sky, and good mate Tony keen to get out too, we decided to head over to Copacabana to see what we could find.

I'd not really thought of this location for a sunset before but a quick check of the co-ordinates confirmed some potential. I've been using a really useful app on my smartphone called "The Photographers Ephemeris".

This terrific app plots the direction of the sun and moon, rise and set, as well as the times for each, according to any location you choose. It uses a google earth location system and you can also set it to any date in the future to see where the sun or moon will rise or set. Well worth a look if you don't have it already.

The sunset didn't quite fulfil it's original promise but it was great to get out and relax after a busy week, a new location found to explore a bit more in the future.

Have a great weekend!

Support

Support

Our lovely Jane McGrath rose burst into flower again and I couldn't resist trying to capture some of her beauty.

As I looked more closely at the delicate structures it struck me just how much support this flower needed to blossom. Only from its strong roots, powerful trunk and well built branches is it possible for this beautiful rose to reach its full potential. I couldn't help thinking this is so much like us. It's no coincidence that this rose is dedicated to the wonderful Jane McGrath, who did so much to help support others. With a good strong network we can all flourish and continue to blossom. To all those that have given me support in the past, thank you. And to all those who will in the future, thank you too. I hope I can give you something in return.

Wishing you all a wonderful 2012, may it bring you many blossoms of your own.

A New Dawn

A New Dawn

As the year comes to an end and a new one prepares to shine over us I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

May it bring you perfect light, brilliant focus and everything you and your family wish for.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words, encouragement and especially for all your insipring images this year. I'm looking forward to sharing your visions and adventures in 2012.

This image is from an early start a few weeks ago, taken at the very far south end of Pearl Beach. A rare sunrise shoot for me, gee the sun comes up early, but it seemed a good idea at the time. I was figuring the sunrise could be interesting as, if I could get far south enough, it would rise right behind Lion Island at this time of year.

There were lots of clouds in the sky as I parked the car and I wondered if this was really such a good idea. Not thinking I grabbed the umbrella from the boot and set off. After a 20 odd minute walk (in near darkness) I found my spot on the rocks. Which is exactly when a large squall pushed across the bay and commenced to pour rain. Lucky for the umbrella I thought, as I sat dreaming what a warm bed would be feeling like....

Anyway it all turned out ok, the rain blew over, the sun rose and I managed a few images to make me content.

Wishing you a Happy, Safe, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!
