About a month or so ago a fellow photographer Nick Haigh invited me to join a group he was helping to organise called London Speedlite Scene. The group is a collection of photographers, models, make up artists and stylists who meet up roughly once a month at a location in London and get a chance to practice their art without the pressures of a commercial photoshoot. The agreement is that the photographers provide the models and make up artists with copies of the photos so everyone also gets to build up their portfolio.
I thought this sounded like great idea as I have been looking at building out my portfolio, so a couple of weeks ago I finally managed to make it along to one of their shoots. The venue was in a bar in North Wembley, which is not exactly the easiest place to travel to from Brighton, but fortunately I had arranged to travel up with Chris Masterton-Smith so it wasn't too bad.
We had a great day - the models were great fun and the other photographers very helpful and supportive. The group also welcomes beginners who are looking to get into fashion or portrait photography - all the pros there are happy to offer advice and techniques.
I'm uploading a couple of shots here, and you can find more on my main website (link below). I'm hoping to make it to another one in the near future - so should have some more photos to share then. If you want to find more out about the group, they now have their own website up and running with details about getting involved: www.londonspeedlitescene.co.uk/
