Wow! You've outdone yourself. Each photo gets better and better, but I'm not sure how you can beat this one!

go 30 to 50mm prime lens no more then f1.8 you will love the DOF and sharpness of your images, but it takes some getting used to because you have to move.... not just move a ring lol. Amazing shot and post edit!

Wowza!!!

Try a EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM, if you can afford it.

It's amazing you're thi good and haven't been into photography for very long; keep up the good work, Nicholas!
What lens to get next, hm...
What do you find yourself wanting the most in a lens that the kit lens doesn't have?
If it's telephoto reach or wide angle coverage, you could get a lens to cover those focal lengths, but a fast prime or a general-purpose zoom might be good as well. If portraits are the kinds of photos you take the most, a lens with a large aperture would be a good idea for blurred backgrounds, but since you seem to like landscape portraits, something with wide angle coverage might be good as well. Because of what I've seen of your work, I'd recommend a lens like the EF 24-70 f/2.8L USM or EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM, but both of those cost around $1000 or more, and I have a strong feelin they're a bit out of your price range. The ultra-wide-angle EF-S 10-22nm, which I have, is a nice lens, but it's also not cheap, at $700+.
Something a bit more affordable is a fast prime such as the 50 1.8 II ("plastic fantastic") or Mk I (rarer and more expensive, but it has a metal mount and a distance window) or 1.4, or the 35 f/2, which I have. Many photographers rave about the 50 1.8 II because of it's combination o good performance and affordable price, but I've never loved it - the slow, noisy focusing and cheap build quality are quite a bit worse than my 35mm, even though it's fairly noisy and slow to focus as well (just not as much, and my 35 has much better build quality).
I'll stop here so I don't clutter up my comments; if you have any questions about Canon lenses or DSLRs (some of the few things I know a bit about), feel free to send me a FlickrMail.

I really like these tornado ones, something about the reckless whimsy they have. I only have one lens and it's a 50mm 1.8(of the nikon variant, however) and I love love it

I'd say go with the 50mm f/1.2 (if you can afford it) or the 28mm f/1.8 (also if you can afford it).
I've got the 50mm f/1.8 and I love it, and I've played around with the 28mm. They're both incredible lenses. You might also wanna look into that 85mm f/1.something...

incredible edit! For a lens, there are so many excellent choices. swapping out the kit lens for my rebel XTi was the best thing I ever did. i bought the 17-40 F4L first. That was amazing, but it is tough to mess with depth of field in such a wide angle lens. the 70-200mm f/2.8L is amazing, but not wide enough for most images on the crop sensor camera. Best choice would be either the 24-70 f2.8L (expensive) which is on my camera the most, or get a 50mm F/1.4 or 35mm F/2 much more affordable. I prefer the 35mm on the crop sensor and the 50 on my 5D.

beautiful... as always!
I have the Nikon system (APS-C) and uses the Nikkor 35 mm 1.8 everyday, it´s sharp and w good light. Maybe the Sigma 30 mm 1.4 could be something for you? Or the more narrow Canon 50 mm 1.4, two awesome lenses what I´ve heard.

OMFG the brightness on the rails are amazing.

I looove the picture man!
And if you want a new lens and you don´t need a zoom I would get for a 50mm (1.8 or 1.4) if you want you can see some pictures with the 50/1.4 on my stream. It´s an amazing lens :)

I recently purchased an 85 mm 1.8 to replace my 18-55mm kit lens. I read up on it and it's got excellent reviews. Still waiting for it to come in, but I know It allows for great portraits while still having some distance. I would also recommend a 50mm 1.4 or 100mm f/2 telephoto lens, but I think the 85mm is the best choice of the three.
Wicked shot!
