6 of July 2011 - 12 of July 2011: Peru.
I came to Peru expecting an extremely rundown place, dusty roads, cheap accommodation, cheap attractions. but this was not quite the case for the places I've visited in Peru. Machu Picchu is a financial nightmare for me. everything that leads to M.P is so expensive.
On the other hand, M.P is such an amazing site to be in. the complex is huge. it was just built for 300 inhabitants. Its hard to imagine the ancients building such a grand city, let alone build it up a hill which is 2400m above sea levels. that kind of collective will power that sustained for that 100 years of construction is certainly shocking and admirable to me.

bought these wool socks in the town of Uyuni. we arrived at 0430hrs. and the temperature was -9 degrees. we hurried into a tour agency with heater in it. when day finally broke, we went to a local store that sells wool items and bought all our winter gear. it's really really cold in the desert at night.

this little girl stays on the island of uros. I gave her some money for the shot to be taken. not sure whether my act of giving her money is encouraging the locals to just be exhibits. but she was quite pleased to get some much needed money. the locals live in houses made of reed. and when the wind blows, it is sure chilling.

The waves come crashing here. I see lots of surfers out there. All geared up in wet suits. i guess its freezing out there.
