mix tapes, another viewThis tape actually came from my friend Sara's old roommate Sarah. She left for Boston and left us some of her music collection. I finished the second side, which was blank. My first Wyoming mix, as yet untitled and unfinished. Is that the civil rights picture when they are crossing that bridge? No, it's Hal Chase, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, and William S. Burroughs at Columbia in 1944. ![]() I got more into mix tape art in the late '90s.

I used to make mix tapes obsessively. I had so many, but now I don't have a tape player outside of my bedroom (and my husband hates my music) so I don't listen to them anymore. I love looking at the evolution of my musical tastes from month to month, year to year. What a great chronicle of your life you have there, Laura!
It's funny, but every time a boy gave me a mix tape, it was always the kiss of death of our relationship. They would always make a cheesy one with "In Your Eyes" or some other lovey dovey song and I would think less of them. Terrible isn't it? The only exception was the guy who made me a Doors mix in 9th grade. Nothing romantic on there and damn good music!
