Amnesty International Walk for Human Rights 2009
Each year the local chapter of Amnesty International, a group dedicated to protecting human rights in the US and around the world, holds a pier walk at the oceanside pier. The event included several speakers including a lawyer working to protect human rights and a Guatemalan political refugee. Participants read the names of various prisoners of conscience and jailed human rights advocates before walking the length of the pier while holding signs with the names and wielding candles.
