Inside a foreclosed home. Newburgh, NY.
An abandoned home goes through a decaying process just like any other living thing. Almost immediately after people have left (and sometimes while they are still there) it begins to decompose.
At one time this home was rather ornate. It has pocket doors, a carved mantle and decorative light fixtures. It has finished wood floors throughout. Time and neglect have taken their toll though. The ceilings are scarred with cracked and fallen plaster, the walls are tagged, windows are broken, belongings have been looted.
This home was the victim of a foreclosure as evidenced by a mortgage company sign in sheet posted inside the door. The last sign in was on December 11th 2011. When I found this home just a few weeks after that final visit, the front doors were completely ripped from their hinges and drapes, clothing and other belongings were spewed out onto the sidewalk.
As I walked past on the street I walked up the steps and snapped a few frames of what used to be someones home. An attempt to document the reality of the times.
