My PLE Diagram

My PLE Diagram by nessman.
I wanted to try and not just show the tools, but how they relate to the different "Circles of Trust" of the people in the network. A few notes:

* the circles extending outwards from the centre represent different levels of trust/relationships. They are dotted lines on purpose - these are not fixed; relationships change, you get to know some people better etc.

* the two headed arrows are meant to express the flow of information and learning - it is not all one way. You *can* just read blogs. You *can* just use del.icio.us without using it socially and following others. But I have always maintained that if we view these as actions ('blogging' instead of just 'blogs') it helps us understand them as conversations, as the "read/write" particpatory web.

This is excellent: not only is it apparently thorough, it's very easy to read.

scott, this is a really good description of how your PLE works. and it's pretty close to how mine works, too. I like that it shows the bidirectional nature of the relationships (subscribe to each other's feeds, etc...) as well as the levels of trust and reputation, and how that affects the means of communication used for each individual. great stuff!

D'Arcy, thanks, that means a lot. I am going to keep reworking it, maybe in a totally different style too, one that doesn't place ME at the centre ;-) That is maybe my ego showing (and I do think reworking it from a few different pperspectives/orientations a useful exercise as well).

I don't see anything wrong with the diagram being ME-centric. It's about how you relate to the people in your network, and through which channels that interaction takes place. ME is the logical centre of that activity - and I read ME as everyperson, not Scott specifically ;-)

D'Arcy, I'm glad you clarified that. I was assuming Scott was placing himself at the centre of all networked learning -- what impressed me so much was that he had me convinced that he was right...

hey, we've both heard him talk. it's entirely possible that he'd eventually convince us ALL that he is in fact the centre of the known universe :-)

ba dump bump. Guess I asked for that ;-) Next version will have a little animated gif of me in the centre gesticulating wildly (otherwise people might not recognize it as me) and over-using the word 'profound.' oh, and 'dude' too.

NOW you're talking! Indeed, I should just replace this entire image with that one. That is my PLE!

I find your diagram very clear. I think reworking it from other angles is a great idea. I look forward to seeing your next iterations.
