Campbell Newman, the mayor of Brisbane, promised to make the traffic better. I guess he thinks thousands of cars moving at less than 15km/hr on a freeway is better.
It is easy to fix: reduce the number of lanes, then add a bucket load of free buses + trains (or very cheap eg: $1 a day / free for pensioners), more buses and more trains.
But the motor industry, the oil industry are just too powerful for politicians who lack spirit, and the will to actually represent the people who voted for them.

Maybe more people / voters want to stay in their cars no matter how slow they go as a result. Change will only be as slow.
