kathakali Dance Project
A student from the local Belfast area volunteers to have the traditional Indian Kathakali make up applied.
The white make up being added to the face here is a mixture of talcum powder, lime powder and water. This mixture is used to create spiritual lines on the face which hold on the paper fins.

As it takes three hours to complete Cain is lieing down on a single bed. This also helps Barbara who is applying the make up as she doesnt want to stand for three hours!

It took 3 hours from start to end and he was not allowed to speak from the start until the end as the make would crack.

Here is Cain finished! After three hours, Cain was lying down so the make up could dry off.

Cain checking himself out. The room had mirrors on both sides of the room which enabled me to get some very cool angles and shoot with longer lenses because of the false sense of space.
