The Boarding Party

In the summer of 1944, Navy Captain Daniel Gallery of Chicago captured a German U-boat, the U-505. Captain Gallery sent his "Boarding Party," the young sailors pictured above, to take command of it for the United States. The knowledge that was gained from the capture of this "Unterseeboot" was instumental in saving American ships, lives and ending the war.
