Union Pacific's Iowa rollercoaster

Union Pacific's Iowa rollercoaster

When one thinks about trains, they see these large, extremely heavy, long lines of locomotives and boxcars. We tend to think that they predominately roll along reasonably flat terrain due to all the weight and size.

Think again. Here, we see the 'tops' of the freight cars as they go down one hill and acsend another near the small town of Malone,IA.

Death of an icon

Death of an icon

Tastee Freez is dead.

The iconic drive-in restaurant on Rockingham Road in Davenport,IA is closed.

After 57 years of being in business, of selling ice cream, burgers, fries, and shakes, one of the oldest in the country is no longer.

Last week, all the neon lighting and signage was removed. I hope it finds a good home.

Do we blame it on the economy? Where is the stimulus package for this little place? No executive corruption here, just simple tasty food and memories. Whoever said you couldn't go back in time, never went here.

Good-bye Tastee Freez. We'll miss you. Check out the picture below of what it used to look like.

the exception

the exception

Scott County Iowa is dotted with many well-to-do farms, with big houses, large barns, expensive machinery, and rich, fertile cropland.

Here is the exception.

This abandoned farmstead still contains the house, barns, outbuildings, machinery, and a small stream that bicests the property.

A quick walk to the garage reveals fresh tracks as a wet snow blankets the Quad Cities.
