Joyride

I love this detail.
Joyride by Miss Aniela.
I was walking by this well-known carousel on Brighton seafront the other day, and the sight of those frozen grins and sticky-outty legs instantly reminded me of Rossina Bossio's recent eerie paintings featuring a carousel - Three little pigs and Le Cheval Bleu. My boyfriend and I both thought, at the same time (that often happens) that we should do a picture with it. So the next day we returned with the kit. Equally inspired by his motivation, and by Rossina's paintings (the composition, and even the pose and stare, were directly inspired by them) I saw something weird and scary in something I must have passed a dozen times indifferently, something unsettling in the overly saccharine tempo of the colour and music of this giant toy on the promenade...

Ok so things have been a bit like an homage to Rossina on my stream lately, but I get to meet the woman herself this weekend!

Another inspiration, for the processing in this, is Rosie Hardy, whose use of dramatic and impactful compositions, and general 'wow' factor in everything from SPs to commissioned pursuits, really inspires me. I met Rosie herself a couple of weekends ago in very apt Rosie-esque pouring Buxton rain, and did the quickest ever photo session with her fancy parasol :)

Things have been chaotic organising my exhibition 'Neurotica' which is going to be at Impure Art in Brighton. The show has been kindly sponsored by Spectrum and is on from Jul 4th to Aug 30th.

But a bit eerie that your hourse is called "Fear"!
I don't know whether that was intentional or not but that combined with the look on your face is a really good effect.

This is freaking amazing. I love it! the way you stare, your blushed cheeks, and the word FEAR written on the horse!! (was it really there??) I love how it contrasts with your title. My kind of thing :D xxx

I should add, just knowing that something you saw reminded you of one of my images makes me wanna jump of excitement!

@Arty
there is a difference between one's opinion of someone, and one's opinion of what someone did. So many people made that confusion, but that's the power of the anonymity of the web for you.

Gemma is equally a weird name for a carousel horse! :P

Dear Natalie,

Please, help me to understand this situation because i’m really confused now.

Facts :

1)You were one of the first photographers on Flickr to criticize Rosie Hardy about the plagiarism case.

2)You asked your boyfriend, Mr Wolfy, to create a thread in Flickr Central about the plagiarism case : www.flickr.com/groups/central/discuss/7215761 4107820734

3)You wrote a post about the Rosie Hardy plagiarism case in your blog named "Copycats and Underdogs - the behaviour of online communities » where you said:

"People started discussion threads on Flickr such as here and here, in discussing whether they agreed that Rosie had plagiarised other artists or whether it was the age-old debate of artist originality at hand. In my view Rosie did plagiarise other artists in these pieces, and it is made even more serious by the fact that she sells her work."

v2a.missaniela.com/copycats-and-underdogs-the -behaviour-o...

Questions :

1)Why did you changed your mind about Rosie Hardy ?
Was it because of the huge media coverage of her in the last month (Manchester TV, Daily Mail, The Sun, Telegraph, Metro (UK), Bild (Germany) ?

2)Are you only interested in Flickr connections who can bring you more page views ? (you must be aware that many people tag their images with the words Rosie Hardy for this reason).

3) Why did you mention Rosie Hardy (a copycat) under a picture that was inspired by Rossina Bossio's paintings (who is a real Artist, with capital A) ?

I hope you will not delete my comment.

In answer to Jasonporto2:

I haven't 'changed my mind'. The blog post is still there and plagiarism is still an issue. After I wrote it, I emailed Rosie telling her about it. I didn't want to appear two-faced or conniving.
She made a mistake, which people like me, rightly or not, chose to make their business. Some people veered off the edge and insulted Rosie herself, which wasn't right. Like I said to Arty, there's a difference between a person, and what a person did. In my blog post, I was actually more critical of the REACTION to Rosie's plagiarism and apology. I was critical how her audience's whimsical attitudes were debilitating to a serious issue.

The simple answer to why I am interested in Rosie Hardy? Simple! I strongly admire her work, and I think she is very talented. Her recent dramatic compositions have stunned and inspired me. That's THE reason I wanted to meet her. I really couldn't care less about how popular she is. It doesn't make a difference to me, in fact it's just a bit distracting more than anything else because it can contextualise anyone's praise as hollow and redundant.

Mentioning the views thing is silly. I don't want, need, or care for more views via such methods. Anything I write under my pics is genuine, I don't have time to write contrived nonsense. Rosie and Rossina are both artists who inspire me, end of.

@ Navin - er, are you sure? lol.
