The chase by Miss Aniela.
A little January sunshine from a composite made last year, taken in Milan.

Six clones, the most I have ever used ;) View larger on black to see them all.

Saw the final of the TV competition 'Picture This', and discovered that you don't even have to be able to take a good picture to win a national photography competition! To become successful, take shitter pictures!
Read more about that and the other 999 reasons I hated the programme here on my blog. I welcome your responses if you saw the programme.

Corinthian Capitals vs. flying polka dots (amazing flappy skirt, btw) Love how you are approaching the door vs. running out of the picture. I absolutely love your detail of your fave part, too.
Left only one note, because I was about to leave too many ! One for your great sunglasses, hair, toes, peek-under-your-skirt, sandals, on and on.....

I like the concept.Would like it better if the multiple versions of you were dressed differently.

maybe the one in the near ground in the skirt, being chased by a version of you dressed for business, and being viewed by two versions of you dressed in cheesy american tourist clothes... shorts tennis shoes with a PS camera around the neck.

or maybe taking a photo of the chase....

Just my opinion.

Have to disagree with you there Miss A, I'm afraid.
Although the images Lucinda produced were wonderfully crafted (and she will go on to make some decent commecial contacts through the show) I have to agree with the judges on their lack of depth. Liz, all be it a beginner in photography developed a style and theme for her final series (not too dissimilar to the work of Nan Goldin)
I wasn't a particular fan of the programme, it was more like the Martin Parr show. That and I thought they got rid of all the best photographers early doors. I did however like the final series of work from the winner and how she seemed to develop it with the images of the shoes.

There have been plenty of photographers through the years who have taken poor images; half of Cartier-Bresson's work is not sharp, but he is still deemed a master.

Edit: Just had a read at your blog, I agree with mostly everything else you have said though.

My girlfriend and I were discussing your photos when we watched 'Picture This' - it's a shame you didn't get to enter.

TV is definitely a pants medium, but I did secretly quite enjoy watching the program. I agree that the judges comments seemed very hypocritical. Lucinda's photos were beautiful, and I think she should have won.

If only they'd scouted Flickr to pick the contestants though, they'd have had an altogether better program. I don't think, apart from maybe Lucinda's, I saw a single photo that was half as good as any on your stream!

love how dynamic this image is! i love how you balanced the composition with the smart placement of the clones - the inclusion and crop of the one nearest to the cam is brilliant.
with that many clones it is so possible to lose everything in the picture but you have done so very well by still showing the viewer the interesting details like your clothes, your skin, your face, and your fabulous stride. Really well done.

Miss Aniela  Pro User  says:

Thanks @ everyone and for those people struggling with 'Where's Wally', I have added a note so you can see where the sixth clone is!

@ iceman - haha well i did like running, but i'm crap at it now, i get a stitch in thirty seconds...

@ Emma - yes, that is my boyfriend, who took the pics whilst i ran about... lol.

@ flkflkr - thank u as always!!

@ ACreepingMalaise - i have been asked that quite a few times in the past, and i have always responded to people saying i might try it. I know some people, like you, would enjoy seeing them dressed differently.
But i have found that i have never had the desire to do it. Lately I have started to understood just exactly why. It's because my instinctual desire, when taking/making a pic, leans toward aesthetic symmetry, to bring the image together into one enjoyable piece, one single impact. I dislike having bits and pieces of different stuff going on in one pic. I like images to be focused on one subject, one main subject, with a regular pattern. That's how I like my literature too... I brainstormed the books that I have genuinely enjoyed reading in my life, and found that they were mostly novels centred around one character, one main issue/theme - Lolita, Robinson Crusoe, Madame Bovary, Jane Eyre, Jude the Obscure...
That might not make sense if you think of my clone shots ;)
But what I mean is that I always like my clones to be drawn into one single visual symphony.

@ educated rabbit - oh yeah i agree. Luckily my boyfriend was helping me, and the area wasn't busy at all. And we got the shots done quickly ;)

@ Lucida - i'm all for concept in photography. But I saw concept in Lucinda's stuff. Even if not as much as in Liz's.
Liz's pics, to me, were not just technically imperfect. They were absolute rubbish. The judges nitpicked their way through the pics in the first episode. In this last episode, they couldn't even see the most basic photography flaws in this girl's work because they were blinded by the motives to let her win.
i would normally insist that all this is, of course 'in my opinion', but I really, really refuse to believe that no-one else can see how spectacularly shit her shots were.

@ tommy - I enjoyed it too. Forced my boyfriend to watch all three with me. Lol.
Thanks for the compliment x

@ Miss M - hehe sunlit piazza :) yeah i need some sunshine!!

funny what you say about the programme last night... i actually thought of your photography at the time, especially when comparing to the girl who took images of the library etc. Her images were nowhere near as strong as these, and failed to communicate an ounce of emotion. As for the other girl with her 'journey' as a drunk... what was that about? they looked like they'd been taken by a toddler running wild with a camera phone.

I watched that program as well, and I could not believe what I was seeing... the winner's photos were sh*t throughout the series... I didn't like Lucinda's 'little giggly'- girl act either but her photos were much better than the winner's... Also, Liz had no variety in her self-portrait photos; it was always about her days as an alcoholic.

I have heard so much about Art and being Facile. Arguments regarding Photography and how it is changing and what it was and is.
Some will say a technical perfection in work, no matter what the medium, is not Art...more Craft. There are proponents of the intuitive, spontaneous response....that putting a foreign medium in an artist's hands and seeing how they move through it and what they produce will show more of the Art of the work. Being more "in touch" with the Artist's true nature. I really don't know any good Artist who would turn their back on any medium to experiment with.
If Urine and Formalehyde can be Mediums, certainly PhotoShop can be one. Maybe Digital Photography/PhotoShop/PostWork just needs a new Name. Separate from the history of Photography. Or as a new step in the evolution of Photography. Then it could be seen for the wondrous tool it is for making images. It seems so very ironic to me that anyone in The Arts would shun anything that can help an Artist say what they have to say.

Ah, some sunshine! I remember that . . .! A bit of a crazy picture, but I reckon I'll go a bit crazy too when warm sunny weather returns to the grey, wet and windy North of England. Really looking forward to summer this year, not like me . . .
As for Picture This, I thought it was a half thought out series, good concept, poorly done. Lets have more TV docs about photographers, or comps for 'new' photogs, but we didn't really get either here.
I thought two good photographers were dropped in the first programme, sadly. In prog 2 we saw Ed(the Richard Madeley of photography) assume he was going to the final (ha ha), while the other bloke should get a commission from Post It notes at least.
Of the last two girls, I thought Lucinda would win given she was young, cute and keen. She will still go on to do well doing 'that' style of fashion and advertising photos, and she is young, cute and keen.
Lizz produced a harder hitting series of photos, but edited them poorly. But gallery owners love her style of technically poor-ish images that reveal 'the self', so she got the vote despite Alex Proud reckoning he could make more money out of Lucinda's type of pics . .
Apologies for the ramble.
