A robin in our back garden landing on the fork Rachel wasn't at that point using. This is not a Photoshop job!! (Well, beyond a crop, levels, slight sharpen.) I just happened to have the macro lens (f=105mm) on the camera, which helped.

Hahahaha. That title made me laugh. This explains where the military got the idea of the Harrier jump jet - a little robin!

Thank you all - it's nice to be able to share a piece of real, simple serendipity. The little guy was just flying on from the fence... isn't nature wonderful?

rob - yes, I like the Harrier too. A great demonstration of the possible. Like Concorde, Apollo, most people, and a robin...

main - we all get lucky now and then! Actually this little bird is quite bold - I'm thinking of putting some breadcrumbs or crushed peanuts on the path and sitting there quietly with the macro lens ready to go! The blackbirds that live in our garden are much more nervous of people. Oh, and I bought a spare battery so I always have a fresh one LOL!

Mr F - that was my first reaction too :-)

Ooh, it's a "shovel landing"! (yes, i know it's a fork)

Amazing image of course, but I'm curious, "our" robins over here look somewhat different than your robins. Or maybe it's just a young one?

BTW, "Luck" is what happens to a person who has skill, talent and is prepared, well positioned, and ready to take advantage of opportunities that present themselves. Good job Andy.

ndrwfgg  Pro User  says:

More favs!! Thanks all!

Rick - this is a European robin, American ones are indeed different. The American one is about twice the size (LOL! it would be, wouldn't it??), has an almost completely red belly, a black cap with white flashes around the eyes, and (in summer at least) a mostly-yellow beak. (So my bird book tells me.) Whereas the one I caught is pretty much a textbook European one; red bib, pale belly, brown on top, brown cap, long slender legs, looking a bit careworn 'cos it's breeding season. The very young Euro ones are brown and spotty all over - not quite time for those yet.

If all those things mean "just happened to be stooging round the garden with the macro lens on the camera and saw the robin snooping around the veg patch where Rachel was working" - OK. But that's how it happened; "luck" is as good a name as any. But thanks for the compliment! :-)
