My MacBook Pro had a dead hard drive, and therefore couldn't go on any longer. It was taken to the Apple Store, but they took 3 weeks to install a new drive, and eventually gave me a brand new, faster MacBook Pro becuase of all the issues I'd had (whine, moo, hiss, heat, boot).
