2007-10-12 - Udayagiri Khandagiri
The Udayagiri Caves and Khandagiri Caves (just outside the center of Bhubaneswar) are a collection of Jain and Hindu rock-cut shelters. Many were started in the 1st century BC for Jain ascetics. One of the highlights is the rather plain Hathi Gumpha, which has a 117-line inscription of King Kharavela of Kalinga (2nd century BC). The largest cave is the two-story Rani Ka Naur (Queen's Palace Cave).
