Morning Glory PoolSadly, this pool - one of the main draws of the geyser walk - is losing its signature color. Due to ignorance and vandalism (people throwing things into the pool), the vent hole is getting slowly plugged. Even though they remove tons (literally) of debris from the pool each year, some of it gets embedded in the walls and is slowly choking off the flow of water. As the water temperature gets lower, the bright blue color changes more to green and other colors and eventually will probably be gone altogether. :(
Uploaded on Jul 20, 2009 Sawmill GeyserIt was pretty crazy watching this one erupt. It was very spastic; constantly sending up huge sprays of water at random intervals and random heights. The boardwalk was so close to the geyser that it was wet from the spray, and we got wet walking past. Hearing the bursts of steam as it blasted out of the water made me wonder what the first people who came through this area, way "back in the day" must have thought about the phenomenon. Out of all the geysers, I think this one was the most fun to watch.
Uploaded on Jul 20, 2009 Bacteria in Hot WaterThis was water running from one of the several geyser pools near Old Faithful in Yellowstone Park. I'm not sure which geyser it flowed from, but I believe it was Anemone Geyser. (Next time I go somewhere that has named landmarks/areas, I need to bring a "pocket brain" with me - a small notebook to write down the names of everything I take photos of. ;)
Uploaded on Jul 20, 2009 Mountain Wildflower BouquetMy eldest daughter loves to pick flowers, and she loves to give them to me. :) These were picked high in the mountains (approx. 10,800 ft. elevation) right over the border in Wyoming.
Uploaded on Jul 20, 2009 Chain Lake(?)
This was one of the (many) mountain lakes we encountered on our way into Wyoming and Yellowstone park. I'm not exactly sure, but I believe this one is called Chain Lake.
