Brown Bag Lectures: "New Photography"![]() I have a friend who is part of the Portland Art Museum Photography Council. They recently started hosting a monthly series of informal lectures called "Brown Bag Lectures", featuring a new speaker/topic each month. Today's lecture was presented by Portland's Newspace Center for Photography's executive director and co-curator, Chris Bennett.
Personally, I felt the whole presentation was a little dry--gallery curators do not necessarily make the best public speakers. But, it was interesting to see a slideshow of Newspace's history of shows and learn what sort of things were happening for the business at the same time. Bennett dedicated a few minutes at the end to outline ways to get your photography "out there" and start getting shown in galleries and making money with art photography. I thought his last slide ("•Present a solid body of work •Personal website •Blog") was especially cute. :) Commentsmerrick_monroe
