Gems from the sea ~ Zen mode! Explore, Dec 12, #334

Here is my very nerdy confession....
I am what is known as a "beach gemmer"...someone that wanders along the beach, picking up and collecting washed over pieces of glass...( I assure you that I am not the only freak out there with this strange hobby... apparently there are lots of us, even though I have failed to yet come across another :P)

Many of these pieces have come from as far away as Vietnam, Thailand, the UK, USA and Ireland...
( some even collected from the beach that Bono lives near when I stalked him whilst over there!*giggles*... yes i really am that pathetic!!)

I have no idea why, or what I am ever going to do with all of the glass that I have collected, but I always have a great sense of satisfaction when finding a beautiful sea gem to take home and add to my big jar. ( see below image for the result of 3 years worth of collecting!)

Anyway... being the start of summer and all, my sea gem fascination has started all over again... I took my collection down to the beach and took a few snaps, and in the process had quite a few curious bystanders watching and wondering what the hell I was doing as I stacked and played with my glass. :P

Its ohhh so pretty wouldnt you agree??!!!
( Gav... you had better not be laughing!?)

Lol! I AM laughing, but it is very pretty.....what a cool hobby!!! Just had another look - sooooo nice on black.

Not laughing here. Just smiling & nodding. So Ms. "beach gemmer" ... meet another "beach gemmer" right here! Yep! I collect them as well, but mine are scattered all over the house, not neatly contained in a beautiful container like yours, and certainly not as geographically eclectic as yours (ROFL at you stalking Bono)!!

Envious of you beginning your summer ... as we just received our first snow! Can I come stay with you for the duration of winter (and collect some sea glass with you)? And ... my guess:
1,111 pieces of glass (hope you counted it and haven't added anymore since this photo)!!

WOOO HOOOOOO!!!! I knew it was impossible for me to be the only one!!! And yes!!!! Come on over.... it would be nice to have a fellow enthusiast to scour the beaches with!!! And then I will I come across to your side of the world... Fort Bragg California is the beach where I REALLY desperately want to go to!!! ( now I AM going to have to count them all lol )

Beautiful colors in this shot and funny hobby, not that strange I would say. About the number of gems in the jar, i would gues around 500.

LOL... the curiosity got the better of me and I ended up counting them.... well sort of anyway! I got to 850 and then I gave up! Thanks for dropping by Bob :)
ha ha ha!!! *fingers crossed* Father Christmas brings me a money tree!!

Lol - thanks Deb... would you believe that I got all the way to Bonos front gate only to learn that he was in Germany!! The funniest part about the whole thing, was that I was actually asked by Bono's security man to stand on the other side of the road when the gates were about to open to allow some handymen into his yard! lol...not sure what they thought I was going to do but clearly they thought I was slightly nuts! (perhaps they were right??! lol)
VICO ROAD, Dalkey is the place to go should you ever find yourself in Dublin...tell him Jody sent you! *giggles*
    Thank you so much :)
    Thanks Jacq!
    Big thank yous!!

Dear Jody, your glass gems are beautiful and the way you created this composition makes them even more beautiful! I love the nuances of this photo, ranging from blue to green!
But finally who won the prize by guessing the number of gems? (Just kidding :-P)

How fantastic nature can be? It polishes human waste into gems. Luckily some humans notice this and appreciate it, very beautiful !!!

we collect sea glass too, love your blue ones them and people seem to be the rarest, too hot for hunting sea gems, we've been hunting shellfish instead at oliver's hill, bout to head back to the pier for some jumping, after that it will be back home for muscles and abalone with salad accompanied by the two frosty goats that survived last night when i fell asleep with the aircon still going, i'll swap you a goat for a fig
    friand ;)
