Not surprising to see a fly at this location
Raccoon scat at 65 ft. by jos47.
A raccoon was very creative with scat placement in the white pine canopy

This raccoon had to work hard to get such perfect placement out on the end of a dead branch. I'm thinking it may indicate the rudimentary beginnings of art in mammals :-) The only practical possibility I can think of is that it wanted to move the scat away from its sleeping perch on a large branch close to the trunk. But why not just toss it overboard? Perhaps the raccoon did not want to advertise that it was is in the tree.

Getting use to Flickr and just testing features. I figure this was an appropriate pic on which to do that.

Though it may seem rediculous to ask, has a book been published on scat? It seems like a good indicator of what's happening the woods.

The book "Tracking and the Art of Seeing" by Paul Rezendes has scat drawings. I've never seen a book devoted soley to scat. Tough sell to the publisher.
