Petrified Wood in Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona
Bronze Medal Winner in "Rough Things" Theme Contest, Color Photo Award Premier Group
The National Park Service estimates that over 1 ton of rock is stolen
monthly from the park. This translates to a huge amount of relatively
small pieces since the rock weighs about 168 lb. per cubit foot and
is so hard that it must be cut with a diamond-tipped saw.
This geological phenomenon is truly a national treasure which should be protected. Those caught stealing it are subject to a heavy fine and/or prison time.
