Open space or construction site 1
Pave paradise and put up a parking lot? The San Gabriel River Discovery Center proposal promises to do exactly that. As shown in this "after" illustration, the project would replace open space, wildlife habitat and the small footprint of the existing nature center with an 18,230-square-foot science museum, 150-car parking lot and artificial wetland as well as other support structures and facilities. The discovery center project would affect eight acres--and opens the door to a second stage of development that would affect more than 40 acres. The illustration was developed from the Discovery Center Authority's current Conceptual Site Plan.
