A horoscope built out of our chariots

A horoscope built out of our chariots

In his dialogue “Phaedrus”, Plato compares the souls of gods and men, both immortal, to chariots pulled by two horses each.
While both horses of a god are good, a man’s soul is pulled by a good horse and a bad one.
Zeus leads a procession of gods’ and fairies’ chariots, each pulled by two flying horses, to the pinnacle of heaven: their colorless, shapeless and intangible dwelling place.
On the contrary, all men are impeded by the uncontrollable ups and downs of a bad horse that plunge them into a worrisome chaos.
Eventually, men’s souls fall to earth because of the broken wings; it takes a 1,000-year process of reincarnation for the wings to grow back and take them to where they started.

As a grade-school student, I spent a summer at my grandmother’s because my mom was too busy to look after me.
There was an active coal mine by my grandma’s house, which was facing a railroad perched on a river cliff, not far away from a tunnel lined by several steel columns.
Covering the top of the tunnel were some fallen rocks besides a blanket of fern and grass.
On a sweltering summer day, we would always climb down the cliff to take a nap in a huge, cool and dried-up drainage hole, known as the “secret hole”.

And yet, I have never been to that hole ever since my uncle threw into it a trespassing serpent he killed in the house.

At the time, I was quite a good storyteller.
Whenever my teacher was too tired to teach, she would let me tell stories to the class, accompanied by drawings on the blackboard.

We’ll meet at 8:00pm, July 28, 2011

在Ex Teresa Arte Actual。

We’ll meet at 8:00pm, July 28

Performance Introduction︱ VOID
Void is an installation that captures the sound made as a result of releasing the hollow space in ice cubes. By changing the temperature, Void theatrically intensifies the sound of melting ice cubes. As the void is released, the “actual space” disappears. Voids release sounds and create a peculiar spatial experience of having a micro sound field. By listening to this micro sound field that we so habitually ignore, we may rethink the spatial yardstick that is carved by sound.

Artist︱CHENG Wen
A musician
Born in 1975 in Taipei, Taiwan
Used to be a bass player of the underground band 《Serious Harm》
Had been worked for Taiwanese music mainstream in the scope “Artists and Repertoire” of a record company.

Oct. 2006 was forced to start a 5-year BAD TRIP
After the 5-year hibernation, floating and introspection
Jan. 2011 went back to the strange and familiar city Taipei

Performance Introduction︱ MUSIC FROM THE LIFE
The BAD TRIP spent 5 years included 3 years and 4 months repression.
During the return year of 2011~2012, how clear had been seen? What had been felt?
The connection between people and the changing of things are tremendous!
The beauty but ugly world and the human’s hearts, melted into one.

After passing through all the procedures, everything had been the “Foot prints” of mind.

CHENG Wen hadn’t involved in creating for so long, what can we hear today?

Performance Introduction︱ Kinetic Theory
The high attention paid to skin and pore by ancient doctor reminds us the theory of Qi once expressed the experience of time and space. Hence, the theory of Qi is a theory of time. Not a clear geometric description of time, not an infinite straight timeline, not a repeated circulated circle, but a real existence of which the tangible variation can be felt on skin, smelt, seen, and heard.
