This is an exquiste composition, a frozen pond framed by a snowy foreground and that extraordinary tree. The cloaked figure in the centre gives it a haunted quality, though that might just be my modern sensibility - it was proabably a standard look at the time! Given the usual long exposure times of cameras at this time, I am surprised to see figures at all.
