This design, completely created with roll tools was common to the period 1530-1630 in England. The book is bound in calf over wooden boards, with two clasps at the fore-edge; the catchplates on the lower cover in the English tradition. The metal centrepiece and corner pieces feature raised bosses, and the spine has a later-added gold-tooled red goatskin label.
