Labour Inspectorate collection
The Labour Inspectorate collection originated from a number of studies of working conditions in various companies during the early years of the 20th century. It contains approximately 5000 photographs taken between 1900 and 1955. In addition to many photographs of machines, the collection also preserves nostalgic images of obsolete industries. The Inspectors at the Labour Inspectorate used photography to document working conditions and potential excesses in companies. These photos added weight to their reports, making them more convincing and therefore more effective tools for achieving their goal of improving working conditions. The photographs have an informative and educational function, and were also used as evidence in the event of infringements of the law.

Collectie Arbeidsinspectie
De collectie Arbeidsinspectie is ontstaan tijdens diverse onderzoeken naar de arbeidsomstandigheden in verschillende bedrijven aan het begin van de twintigste eeuw. De collectie Arbeidsinspectie bevat ongeveer 5000 foto’s uit de periode 1900 tot 1955. De collectie bevat naast veel foto’s van machines ook mooie tijdsbeelden van niet meer bestaande industrietakken. Inspecteurs van de Arbeidsinspectie maakten gebruik van fotografie om arbeidsomstandigheden en eventuele misstanden in bedrijven vast te leggen en konden met hun foto’s hun rapporten kracht bijzetten met als doel de arbeidsomstandigheden te verbeteren. De foto’s hebben een voorlichtende en educatieve functie en werden daarnaast ook gebruikt als bewijsmateriaal bij overtredingen.
