@lodrorigdzin: do you have any evidence, that the pictures were taken by an SS unit ? As far as I know, there were not much SS units in the mediterranean theatre and the troops on Crete were paras and mountain troups - the paras belonged to the airforce and they had their own propaganda units, so I could imagine that these pics were taken by one of them.

The assault on Crete could hardly be described as "Blitzkrieg", as the British forces were well prepared. So the figthing was very hard and the success was paid in blood - resulting in the decision to stop further planned big airborne operations. At this stage of war, the Blitzkrieg was definitely over.
