Social Mirror at #MediaLabIO

This week at #MediaLabIO, I will be using the Social Mirror tablet app to survey members on their relationships with research groups within the Media Lab.

I'm hoping that this will also lead Members to reflect on their overall relationship to the lab and imagine new ways to connect to the community.

The survey asks Members to place Media Lab groups on a bullseye to reflect what kind of relationship they have with a given group:

- collaboration is the closest kind of relationship, with two way sharing and communication.

- A Member has a connection to a group if they have been able to see connections between a group's research group and the Member's work outside the lab.

- Many members also draw inspiration from a group's ideas, even if they haven't quite yet found a concrete connection to the member's work outside the lab.

A healthy, productive relationship with the Media Lab will contain relationships at all levels. I hope sponsors will use Social Mirror to spot new opportunities and improve their overall relationship with the lab's research groups at #MediaLabIO.

About the Social Mirror Project

This survey is intended to illustrate our broader vision for Social Mirror, a collaboration with the UK's Royal Society of Arts. We're using networks to measure the relational health of communities and evaluate public services. We also want to encourage people to reflect on their networks and change them for the better.

The RSA website has more information on the Connected Communities project.
