Soyuz TMA-14 Lands at Arkalyk, Kazakhstan (NASA, International Space Station Science, 10/11/09) [EXPLORED]

    Newer Older

Editor's Note I'm cheating a little in calling this an Earth observation -- as you can see, this was taken by NASA photographer Bill Ingalls, not the International Space Station crew. But the whimsical lines of the parachute and soil tempted me too much not to post it. :)

The Soyuz TMA-14 spacecraft touches down with Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka, Expedition 20 commander; NASA astronaut Michael Barratt, flight engineer, and spaceflight participant Guy Laliberte onboard, near the town of Arkalyk, Kazakhstan on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009. Padalka and Barratt are returning from six months onboard the International Space Station, along with Laliberté who arrived at the station on Oct. 2 with the Expedition 21 crew aboard the Soyuz TMA-16 spacecraft.

Glad you posted this . . . saw it on a blog yesterday (3 shots) and think it stated something else about what it was. One had a big cloud of dust as it hit.
