Shuttle Enterprise Flight To New York (201204270017HQ)

Space shuttle Enterprise, mounted atop a NASA 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA), is seen off in the distance behind the Statue of Liberty, Friday, April 27, 2012, in New York. Enterprise was the first shuttle orbiter built for NASA performing test flights in the atmosphere and was incapable of spaceflight. Originally housed at the Smithsonian's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Enterprise will be demated from the SCA and placed on a barge that will eventually be moved by tugboat up the Hudson River to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in June. Bill Ingalls' photo was featured today on Astronomy Picture of the Day, so this was the first I'd seen of it. I came to Flickr to see some other images from that day and was amazed at all the comment that this image was Photoshopped! And, all of this from people who supposedly live there, too!
jsmjr has got it right. The photo was shot from the eastern end of Port Jersey Blvd. using a super-telephoto lens, and the compositional skills of a superb photographer. All Ingalls had to do was was realize the 747 was going to loop through the scene and set up the shot; no Photoshopping necessary, it's a straight shot. (he probably held the shutter down and took 8 or 10 images, just to get the one, best shot.)
You can drive right to the spot it was taken from. I'm from Wyoming and have only been to NYC once, but even I know about this vantage point. It's almost a city park! C'mon, people, get out and explore your surroundings occasionally!!!
