During this photo opportunity, President Obama stated "that we achieve the goal by 2020 of having the highest college graduation rates of any country on earth". No mention was made of the goal of landing again on the moon by that same year. Very curious.

While I believe we landed on the moon in 69, I think the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission is being faked!

Ditto's to paintpicture comment... I was 2yrs old when they landed AND REMEMBER it . (don't remember the famous "Eagle has landed quote", or other quotes from the day....but that day was sooo huge, my grandmother says I stayed glued to the TV that day) Guess it kinda stuck with me:)

Wonderful photo.

I am fortunate enough to remember watching them land on that day back in 1969. I still get a bit choked up every time I watch the footage, or listen to the audio recordings.

There are more people alive in the world today that weren't alive when these landings were possible, and that is sad. I feel as the human race it is our duty to pull together and explore... Instead of building a base that spins around the Earth, there should be one on the moon.

Neil Armstrong's speech was quite emotional. Mentioning the race with the USSR being the only reason moon landings were possible. Perhaps Russia or China should start considering a manned mission to Mars, to start another global ultimate peacetime race.

Additionally, I welcomed the comments of Buzz Aldrin regarding a manned trip to Mars that left explorers there rather than returned them. Regular supplies would be sent to them.

And finally, it was sad that Obama was very non commital on the whole space project. Nothing kick starts an economy like a global celebration.

Buzz Adrin's idea of humans colonizing on Mars is a big idea. Bigger than compulsory government managed health care, bigger than anything President Obama has proposed to inspire America. Kennedy inspired Americans to achieve the goal of the moon landing, now it is up to Obama to follow that up with our establishing an outpost, then a colony on Mars. Long term, our survival as a species may depend on having our DNA dispersed to places beyond earth.
