A shot of an enormous lightning bolt during a summer lightning storm in Colorado Springs, CO during the summer of 2005.
I took this shot outside of my apartment balcony in the Briargate area, facing west towards the mountains and I-25. This summer lightning storm was just amazing...it lit up the night sky over a span of about an hour on that summer evening.
The storm was off in the distance, so it was quite eerie being that the surrounding area around me was all so calm and quiet, with the exception of a light, sporadic drizzle. There would be several flashes of lightning every minute with a loud crash of thunder ensuing, then calm silence thereafter. It was quite an experience to sit through.
You'll notice how much this lightning bolt lit up the forefront building and parking lot when you check out another shot I captured on this evening here: www.flickr.com/photos/77173584@N00/63849014
