Cat Track Trace

The GPS trace from my cat over around 6 hours last night. GPS is strapped to his collar and records position every 2 minutes. It's from here.

This sort of tracking has been done for ages in scientific studies on animal migrations, but I've never thought somebody would apply it in a urban setting. Very cool!

IMHO, a lot of those outlying points might be due to bad GPS data. It would be useful to see a track of the GPS sitting still, like on a table or whatever so you can see how accurate it actually is. Still pretty awesome though.
For Cat-Cams try the flycam (the latest versions called flycamone^2)

Simonvc, there is not necessarily the same time gap between points, if the device is unable to get a signal, it doesn't log anything. so when the cat it under heavy cover (or inside) it doesn't pickup anything. Some of these points have 8-10 minutes between them so that could account for the 'blips'

It would be very interesting to see this animated, to get a sense of how his route develops, especially in the very frequently visited areas. Does he have a path he does 'laps' of, or is it more random than that. Would also love to see night by night traces, to see how consistent he is.

May need to get one of these for 'my' cat, who lives with my parents. Although that trace would be mainly restricted to the bed, I think.

are you getting the results via SMS? if so, how are you mapping from there? or is this the cat-tracker with data stored on the device itself?

curious to get a gateway for SMS as that is the Mr. Lee collar we have... cat camera is pretty awesome too :)
